This project was passed to us by Jon William Stables and we were tasked with obtaining planning permission and assisting in the decision making for this project. Despite the small scale of the build, there were two clear obstacles to navigate, the first being the close proximity of the build to nearby hedges and trees. As shown in the photos, there are some large scale trees and hedges in the immediate area of the build site, and thus we had to ensure that there would be no damage to the trees (such as root damage) during construction.
The second obstacle was a high-pressure water main located very nearby, meaning we had to find the exact location of the pipe and then choose a suitable build location accordingly, in keeping with the client’s requirements whilst ensuring the safety of the assets around the site.
The site area, located at the bottom of the client’s garden, was formerly used as a vegetable plot. Though the area initially looked quite small, the hedges were trimmed back and the shed was relocated leaving enough room to construct a concrete base and erect the stables shown above. The stable block comprises three looseboxes and a corner box used for hay, feed and tack. You might notice there are no top stable doors, these have been installed in the rear walls for improved ventilation.
